Explosive Ordnance Disposal

Tactical Firearms Officers should be the only ones handling explosives. A cordon may be set by Officers, however.

Typically, an explosive such as a hand grenade, Molotov, etc. Can be handled safely by an LEO out of TFU gear if the device is not armed. Tactical Firearms Officers may perform these duties in both light and heavy gear.

Dealing With Remote Explosives

Follow this procedure when dealing with Remote Explosives:

Upon discovery: Communicate with officers, evacuate the area of everyone but yourself
Create 2 perimeters: one In the bomb's location and another where the controlled explosion will take place
The explosive should be taken directly from the POINT OF DISCOVERY to the BLAST ZONE POINT. This duty is to be performed by a single Tactical Firearms Officer to minimise casualties in the event of a premature detonation and prevent any obstruction.

Once the explosive has arrived in the BLAST ZONE POINT, only then should a C2 breaching charge be deployed onto the explosive.
When detonating the explosive, do not use the C2 charge's detonation timer to communicate your countdown. Instead, communicate a slow countdown from five seconds before triggering the C2 charge's detonation timer.

Note: As a TFO, YOU are responsible for ensuring all safety practices are being performed on duty and failing to follow this procedure leaves you liable for all damages, injuries or deaths that occur due to mishandling an explosive

Bonus Tips

Stand out of range from the explosive, approaching it backwards very slowly whilst attempting to trigger the C2. The moment you get in range of the explosive and the C2 countdown begins, this gives you a good chance to sprint forward.
Keep the SWAT Van out of the blast radius; however, to detonate an explosive in an area where cars are nearby, it is advised to put the SWAT Van in a manner which means it is obstructs these vehicles from damage.
Moderate levels of force (threatening with a nightstick or taser, immediate detainment) should be deployed against civilians who cross the perimeter during these types of situations. Any civilian entering the known scene of an explosive who crosses the initial perimeter should also be fined for doing so to discourage a repeat of these actions.

The DON'TS

Do NOT, under any circumstances:

Perform a Controlled explosion within or directly outside of an enclosed building. This includes in the backyards of a small suburbs house.
Attempt to transport a bomb via vehicle. A designated open Blast zone can be found in virtually every location.
Attempt to "dispose" of explosives by shooting them. This is not a reliable or safe method of disposal.
Allow anyone who isn't a member of TFU to handle the explosive unless absolutely necessary.
