Changes to TFU Handbook - SEPTEMBER 2025 - RTFO and Policy Updates
This page will outline the Recruitment Policy used and enforced by the Tactical Firearms Unit (TFU).
2 - Internal Disciplinary
2.1 Any TFOs not performing to the standard expected of them, as outlined in the TFU Policies/ Handbook or the PLPD-wide Policies, are subject to internal review and internal disciplinary action.
2.2 Any external disciplinary action enacted on an officer, such as via the Internal Affairs system, may be subject to internal disciplinary action if the misconduct is deemed relevant to TFU duties.
2.3 TFU Command reserves the right to remove any TFO of any certification if there is a reasonable belief that they are not, and will not, perform their duties to a high enough standard within the division. This will require approval from the Head of TFU and OS.
2.4 All TFU internal disciplinary action is to be graded via the system outlined in Section 7 - Disciplinary Action of the TFU Handbook.
2.5 Any TFOs, apart from RTFOs, who lose their Taser Certification will be removed from TFU without prior warning.
3 - Application infringements
3.1 Both present or past members of the Tactical Firearms Unit will be immediately dismissed and/or blacklisted should they share vital information regarding questions, scenarios, mark schemes, or procedures involved in the Tactical Firearms Unit recruitment process. This includes previous applications.
3.2 Failure to report any form of Tactical Firearms Unit Application infringement will also result in dismissal from the Tactical Firearms Unit.
3.3 Any information regarding Tactical Firearms Unit recruitment is only to be discussed between active Trainers or Command Members.
4 - Quality Assurance
4.1 TFU Command reserves the right to refer any member of TFU for a supervised patrol or mandatory retraining for any reason, which should be completed in no more than 14 days from the assessee being notified. Officers who are unable to partake in the quality assurance measures mentioned above must notify their assigned trainer or TFU Command within 14 days of the initial notification to request its postponement. Failing to attend or arrange a supervised patrol upon request without fair reasoning will result in further action being taken against the assessee, as deemed appropriate by TFU Command.
4.2 Quarterly Reviews occur every 90 days, during the division-wide review TFTOs and TFU Command will assess all TFICs and Standard Tactical Firearms Officers’ performance. Anyone holding the rank of TFTO or TFU Command is exempt from quarterly reviews. The Data Protection and Confidentiality Policy is applicable to all sensitive information contained within the #tfu-reviews channel of the PLPD discord. The Head of TFU and OS reserve the right to exempt individuals who have contributed significantly to the division from Quarterly Reviews.
4.3 If an officer’s performance is deemed unsatisfactory via the quarterly review, they will be subject to either the quality assurance measures outlined in 4.1 or disciplinary action.
5 - Activity Requirements
5.1 TFICs are required to amass a minimum of 4 hours on duty every month; not all of these hours must be completed while in TFU gear.
5.2 Standard Tactical Firearms Officers are required to amass a minimum of 2 hours on duty every month; not all of these hours must be completed while in TFU gear.
5.3 RTFOs do not have a minimum activity requirement.
5.4 The aforementioned activity requirements do not apply to TFOs who are members of any PLPD Command Team, due to them already being subject to another activity requirement.
5.5 If a TFO is unable to meet their activity requirement in a month, they must submit an inactivity notice/ leave of absence on PLPD.online.
5.6 The Head of TFU and OS reserves the right to exempt individuals who have contributed significantly to the division from Activity Requirements.
