Changes to TFU Handbook - SEPTEMBER 2025 - RTFO and Policy Updates
This page will outline the Recruitment Policy used and enforced by the Tactical Firearms Unit.
2.1 All applicants must meet the requirements within the application on the ‘careers’ page of PLPD.online. If at any point during their application an applicant does not meet said requirements, the application will be failed.
2.2 Any PLPD Personnel who wishes to become whitelisted as any level Tactical Firearms Officer must complete all mandatory stages in the respective application.
2.3 TFU Command reserves the right to accept or deny anyone in their Command Review stage(s) if certain criteria are met. This decision will be influenced by the applicant’s disciplinary record, activity and Observation Reports.
3.1 Officers seeking reinstatement must meet certain requirements;
Senior Officer
1 Month since their last server punishment while on duty.
1 Month since last infraction.
Taser certified.
Having previously held the Standard Tactical Firearms Certification
Having resigned from TFO/TFIC within the past 6 months.
3.2 PLPD Personnel who have resigned from TFU more than 6 months prior to requesting reinstatement may be reinstated if the Head of TFU and OS are in agreement to do so.
3.3 Officers are no longer eligible to be reinstated if they have received any infractions during the period of their absence from their position.
3.4 Reinstating to RTFO or TFIC is not possible. The only certification that officers may reinstate into is the Standard Tactical Firearms Certification.
3.5 TFU Command reserves the right to have an officer seeking reinstatement to attend a practical stage or a supervised patrol for Quality Control purposes. If either of the aforementioned quality control processes were to be failed by an applicant, they are no longer eligible for reinstatement.
3.6 After being reinstated, TFU Command reserves the right to subject the reinstated to a probationary period, see section 4(a).
4.1 Upon passing their Standard Tactical Firearms Officer application, TFU Command reserves the right to assign a mandatory probationary period.
4.2 The decision to assign a probation period will be influenced by prior infractions or performance in the practical stage.
4.3 The probation period will last 1 month, but TFU reserves the right to extend it if concerns are raised.
4.4 During a probation period, an officer may be required to attend a supervised patrol if concerns are raised.
4.5 During a probation period, internal disciplinary procedures become much stricter on the officer. These are outlined in the disciplinary policy.
4.6 After a month has passed, and no concerns are raised, the officer will no longer be ‘on probation’ and will be subject to standard internal disciplinary procedures.
