Changes to TFU Handbook - SEPTEMBER 2025 - RTFO and Policy Updates
Tactical Firearms Officers often encounter situations where access to a property cannot be granted through the cooperation of its occupants.
Below are several different breaching techniques that you can use to get the upper hand on suspects. You can use these tactics by themselves or combine them for greater efficiency!
Make sure to always announce your presence when entering private property!
Do not underestimate the intuition and experience of criminals; some of them can predict a raid simply by listening to the sounds that you and your equipment make. Therefore, in situations where trying to get the upper hand by a surprise breach:
You leave your vehicle further away from the building to avoid making noise
Pulling the pin of a flashbang a good distance away from the area
Crouching up to the door to avoid making noise
To confuse suspects and give them more than one spot to aim for, we typically perform a simultaneous breach. This is done by two TFU Officers placing C2 charges on 2 different doors of a single property.
To initiate the breach, one of the officers will declare: "Starting breach in... 3... 2... 1... Go...", after which both of them will start the detonation of their C2 charges.
When working in a team, using two tools at once sometimes proves to be the perfect combination. This tactic requires 2 TFOs, where one of them will breach the door, whilst the other will throw in their flashbang.
Breacher places C2 on the door and nods (by moving their mouse up and down) to the flashbang operator
The flashbang operator nods back to signal they are ready (and primes the flashbang if they haven't already)
The breacher starts the detonation (3s timer), which shows a hand signal
The flashbang operator, once they see the hand signal, pops the spoon off the flashbang and throws it in when the door is breached
This tactic is perfect for when you're working in large numbers or running solo. To perform a flash rush, you will simply throw an uncooked flashbang into the apartment, which may cause the suspects to look away. You can use that time to move into the apartment and surprise them from a position they would not expect. Preferably, your movement should be away from the direction you threw the flashbang in.
Whilst the battering ram is given to all officers on the force, there are many reasons why the C2 charge can simply never replace it.
